Meet Angel Serrano and Candace Yanez

Every quarter we are talking to different leaders that attended Leading Within Our Culture (LWOC). LWOC is a new leader orientation that enables leaders to better understand the different business functions that interact together to create a memorable customer and team member experience. This is an opportunity to network, talk with executives, and learn more about our business and culture. The most recent LWOC took place last month and included 31 amazing new leaders. The Academy of Learning and Development is excited to host the final LWOC of the year in September.

This month we are highlighting two fantastic leaders, Angel, and Candace. Angel attended LWOC in March 2022 and Candace attended LWOC in January 2023. They offer advice to new leaders starting with the company and reflect on their time at LWOC as new leaders within HICV.

Meet Angel Serrano – On – Duty Manager

We asked Angel what his biggest takeaway was from LWOC, and he had this to say:

I enjoyed learning the history of the company and what future goals that are in the works. I loved the fact that this company cares just as much about the culture of the resorts as they do about the success of the business!

What is one piece of advice you would offer new leaders starting with HICV?

Stay connected with your team and help them enjoy more than just the job their doing.

Meet Candace Yanez – Food and Beverage Manager

We asked Candace what her biggest takeaway was from LWOC, and she had this to say:

The real emphasis on our family culture, I realized how much that flows through the company from top executives to the resort team members across the country and it doesn’t stop at the end of my resort’s property line, it’s part of who we are as a company.

The environment and experience that we as leaders create for our team is so important to how the team can create great experiences for the guest they interact with. The people we have on our team and how we guide our team as leaders could make or break a guests over all experience so be present with your team and show them you care about them.”

What is one piece of advice you would offer new leaders starting with HICV?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions and seek answers. There’s a whole team of people here to help you throughout the entire company and they want to see you grow and succeed. Ask the questions even to the person you ask doesn’t have the direct answer they’ve got a connection; they get you in contact with the people that can help.

Be on the lookout for other leaders within our culture, like Angel and Candace, as we continue this quarterly series spotlighting our new HICV leaders.
