Meet Shelia Pittman – Guest Engagement Assistant Manager & Spring 2021 Expansions Graduate

“The greatness of man is not how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively.” – Bob Marley

Expansions is a 6-month leadership development program for emerging and evolving leaders. The Spring 2022 class recently concluded with a graduating class of 22. At the same time, the incoming Fall 2022 class started their 6-month journey with a class of 31.

Our featured Leader on the Rise, Shelia, graduated the program in 2021 and has since been promoted to Asst Mgr. for Guest Engagement at Orange Lake. The Academy of Learning and Development is so excited to use this platform to feature more Expansions alum and share their experiences and accomplishments during and after Expansions.

When asked ‘why did you choose to be part of Expansions’ this is what Shelia had to say:

Ongoing training is one of the best tools for fine tuning your skills for growth. I
believe projects are one of the things I enjoy. Having fun with breaking down
processes and systems, while getting to know others and their needs.
Expansions was a new exciting program. I personally applied to help enhance my personal
journey to become a better leader. Giving yourself the time to self-balance is
a gold rule my father taught me. I always looked forward to gaining new avenues
of navigation future roles.

Developing more skills and networking with team members was just the beginning of my
journey. Being able to apply what I have learned in the Expansion Program has
given me the ability to be more myself and give my customer service driven
style in an area to flourish.

What are your takeaways from being part of Expansions?

Mentorship is a big part of this program and in my opinion, it enhances the approach to be a
better leader every day. The guidance I received is priceless. I have not only
learned how to apply my tools I have learned, but the overall understanding of what
type of leader I want to be and the impact I want to give others. My mentor
gave me a new way to process each challenge I am faced with and to think
outside of the box. I truly want to thank my mentor for giving me a foundation.
Thank you for tools for success. I don’t think I have ever gotten back into the
box!” I am ready to begin the path walked by elephants.

Be on the lookout for other rising leaders, like Shelia, as we continue this monthly series spotlighting our leadership development program graduates.
