Have you ever wondered why we refer to our managers as “leaders”?

Have you ever wondered why we refer to our managers as “leaders”?

Manager is a title earned with a promotion. A manager directs work, enforces rules, and ensures the job gets done. These aren’t trivial tasks, they’re important for any functioning business. But what happens when our managers instead built strong relationships, inspiring confidence and trust among their teams? What if they painted a broad vision, encouraged others to grow, and challenged the status quo?

They become leaders.

“Management is efficiency in climbing the ladder of success; leadership determines whether the ladder is leaning against the right wall.”

Stephen Covey

So, how does one become a great leader?

Leadership is about mindset. That’s an odd statement since most of us grow up believing some people are just “born with it”, like the classic Maybelline tag line. However, research is proving that leadership can be a learned behavior, and more importantly, it must be practiced. And we’ve got just the right programs to support that practice.

The Academy of Learning and Development has partnered with Franklin Covey, an organization world renowned for its leadership curriculum, to host development courses for our Team Members. Whether you’re looking for an all-inclusive class to hit all areas of leadership necessity (4 Essential Roles of Leadership), or you’d like to focus on a specific skill or concept (Speed of Trust), we’ve got a course that will suit you.

In addition, the Academy also introduces new leaders to the company, and our leadership culture, through our week-long “Leading Within Our Culture” course.  In 2019, new leaders can expect a freshly revamped program. This will get participants out of the classroom, simulating scenarios that leaders across our company face every day. This week long program is designed to give a fundamental understanding of, and the practical means to apply our company’s “flavor” of leadership.

Take a minute to explore our offerings in the course catalog and sign up for a course. There’s a leader in all of us – your journey starts here!
