Meet Ryan Magura—Sr. Manager of Customer Commitments and Evolving Leader graduate from Expansions.

As a leader I want to be someone who drives change and leads courageously.”

The Academy of Learning & Development recently graduated its second Expansions class. This six-month leadership development program uses real-life projects to facilitate leadership skills along with mentorship and self-study assignments. This group, whose program was extended and shifted due to the impact of the pandemic, embraced adaptability to cross the finish line with grace and enthusiasm.

Each month we’re highlighting team members from two of our leadership development programs—Expansions and the AHLA Apprenticeship. In their own words, they’ll share their leadership development journey, experience, and lessons learned.

When asked about being part of Expansions, this is what Ryan had to say:

“I was a member of the Evolving Leaders track for the Expansions program.  I chose to partake in this to hone my leadership skills and continue growing my career.  As I have taken the step up from being a front line leader to leading other leaders, the ability to get formal, specialized training was a great opportunity to jump at.  It presented the ability to get exposure to growth opportunities and make a long-lasting impact on the company.

The greatest benefit from the Expansions program were the materials provided to take back and implement within our organization.  There have been numerous things I have taken back to drive results with our team as well increase engagement levels.  From creating scoreboards driven by the team, to coming up with a culture statement, it has led to a stronger bond and connection with our team. “

When asked what drives him, Ryan shared the following:

“One of my favorite quotes is, ‘The more you are like the culture the less you can influence the culture’. I want to continually push not only myself, but others around me to challenge the norm, think outside the box. I want everyone to use their voice and be proud of the work they do. As a leader, I believe it is our responsibility to lead by example.”

Be on the lookout for other rising leaders, like Ryan, as we continue this monthly series spotlighting our leadership development program graduates.
