The House of the Spirits

Jannet Sanchez shares her book recommendation for NLD month!

One of my favorite books is The House of the Spirits written by Isabella Allende. Magical realism combines with realistic events and supernatural elements like clairvoyance and spirit to create a unique and captivating world. It also describes the lives of two families across four generations showing the impact of love, social turmoil, on individuals and their history. Not to mention the historical and political context showing the class struggle and conflict. Furthermore, the story is driven by resilient and courageous women, particularly the Trueba women, who endure and fight against oppression and the domineering patriarch of the family. Once you start this book it is impossible to stop reading, I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in the endless determination of women to carry their families throughout any social despair.
