Meet Sammy Barney and Mary Whitener

Each month we are talking to different leaders that attended Leading Within Our Culture (LWOC). LWOC is a new leader orientation that enables leaders to better understand the different business functions that interact together to create a memorable customer and employee experience. This is an opportunity to network, talk with executives, and learn more about our business and culture. Our first LWOC of the year kicked off last month and included 48 new, ambitious leaders.

This month we are highlighting two extraordinary leaders, Sammy, and Mary. Both attended LWOC in 2022. They offer advice to new leaders starting with the company and reflect on their time at LWOC as new leaders within HICV.

Meet Sammy Barney — Talent Acquisition Manager

We asked Sammy what his biggest takeaway was from LWOC and he had this to say:

It was great to meet other leaders and get to hear their experience with different situations. It was also good for them to see from our recruitment side what we have to deal with. I also loved the different material presented by our ALD team.

What is one piece of advice you would offer new leaders starting with HICV?

To rely on their leaders, and not to be afraid to ask for help. To care of their employees, as they are the heart of our company. They will help you be successful, and all you have to do in return is to let them know you care.

Meet Mary Whitener — Training Manager

We asked Mary what her biggest takeaway was from LWOC and she had this to say:

LWOC gave me the opportunity to meet Team Members across the entire organization and make connections with them. These connections have changed my time at HICV. I now have a network to reach out to when I was looking for ideas as a new leader! We were all able to share ideas and experiences, as well as learn valuable leadership advice from some of our executive team.

What is one piece of advice you would offer new leaders starting with HICV?

I would say lead with your heart and show your team that you care about them. Caring is one of our core values and it is so important to leadership.

Be on the lookout for other leaders within our culture, like Sammy and Mary, as we continue this monthly series spotlighting our new HICV leaders.
