Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life

by Héctor García and Francesc Miralles.

 Mercedes Navarro shares her must-read:

“I loved the book Ikigai. The Japanese word ikigai translates to “the happiness of always being busy.” It is the reason why we get up in the morning (our mission, vocation, profession, or passion). The book talks about why some people, especially those in Okinawa, Japan (one of the world’s Blue Zones), tend to live long, healthy, and fulfilling lives.

I don’t want to disclose too much about the book, but I can tell you that ever since I read it, I appreciate even more the importance of community, friendships, and family. I drink more green tea, and I hardly take elevators anymore!

It was very easy to read, and you finish the book wanting to enjoy life more, spend more time with friends and family, and think about how to take care of your body so it can stay strong in the future.

Also, if you have a chance, I highly recommend the Netflix documentary Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones. The show highlights five regions around the world where you can find some of the highest concentrations of centenarians.

If you decide to follow these recommendations, let me know what you think!”
