Harriet Tubman: Live in Concert

by Bob the Drag Queen.

Teri Cross shares her must-read:

“Summary: A genre-bending 2025 novel of historical and speculative fiction that imagines Harriet Tubman returning from the dead in the modern world to record a hip-hop album.

My take:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I read this as a random pick for a seasonal GoodReads challenge for the Read The Rainbow badge. I had zero expectations and if I’m being honest wasn’t really excited about reading this. Holy smokes! I laughed. I cried. It’s a story of slavery- historical slavery as well as being a slave to your fear about who you are. An amazing perspective about freedom, both literal and emotional. Accepting who you are. Breaking down the barriers you place around yourself in an effort to protect yourself and then understanding life is more than just you. And forgiveness. Heavy topics but told in a way that isn’t overbearing. It was really great. I listened to this via Spotify and it was read by the author which I feel makes it that much better. Plus I think Bob the Drag Queen is hilarious. *There are references to drug use and some explicit language.”
