Remarkably Bright Creatures

by Shelby Van Pelt.

Teri Cross shares her must-read:

“Summary: A heartwarming debut novel about a widow, Tova, who works at an aquarium and forms an unlikely friendship with a giant Pacific octopus named Marcellus, who helps her solve the mystery of her son’s disappearance. The story explores themes of grief, loneliness, family, and connection through the unique perspectives of Tova, a young man named Cameron, and the intelligent, curmudgeonly octopus, Marcellus, who narrates parts of the story.

My take:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I really loved this. I read a lot of weird books that leave me with questions and sometimes even some concerns. But this was beautifully written. You get 3 different points of view- Tova, the widow, Cameron, the troubled young man, and Marcellus, the octopus. I didn’t have high hopes for this book because what the heck kind of POV are you going to get from an octopus that doesn’t make the story ridiculous? But all 3 stories are perfectly interwoven. I would give this a PG-13 rating. The more adult/spicy moment in the book is hinted at and not described in detail. It’s wholesome and your heart breaks and comes back together throughout the book. I highly recommend this one.”
