“Innovation comes from people meeting up in the hallways or calling each other at 10:30 pm at night with a new idea, or because they realized something that shoots holes in how we’ve been thinking about a problem. It’s ad hoc meetings of six people called by someone who thinks he has figured out the coolest new thing ever and who wants to know what other people think of his idea.” — Steve Jobs
The Academy of Learning & Development is gearing up to open applications for another Expansions class. This six-month leadership development program uses real-life projects to facilitate leadership skills along with mentorship and self-study assignments. Each month we’re highlighting recent Expansions alumni and sharing their experience.
When asked ‘why did you choose to be part of Expansions’ this is what Kelly had to say:
I chose to be part of Expansions because I wanted to grow my leadership skills and also learn from other leaders in our company that I may not get to work with on a day-to-day basis. I also wanted to have a deeper understanding of our company’s growth opportunities and goals and how I can contribute to them both within and outside of my current role.
What are your takeaways from being part of Expansions?
There are so many areas of opportunity to grow just from collaborating with others. Break down walls and build relationships outside of your bubble! You’d be surprised how many personal, professional and life skills you can learn from others if you’re open to listening to them.
